Violet Evergarden’s Taichi Ishidate directs John Tarachine’s film‑making tale
Flag Pictures announced Monday that Kyoto Animation will adapt John Tarachine’s manga Credits Roll Into The Sea (Umi ga Hashiru Endroll) into an anime film slated for release in 2027. The project will be directed by Taichi Ishidate—known for his work on Violet Evergarden, CITY The Animation and Beyond the Boundary—with Shochiku handling distribution.

Story premise
The manga follows 65‑year‑old Umiko, who is mourning her husband’s recent death. After visiting a cinema for the first time in decades, she meets Kai, a university student studying film. Fascinated by audience reactions, Umiko invites Kai home, and when he asks, “You’re interested in making films, aren’t you?” she discovers a newfound passion for filmmaking.
