The official Pokémon YouTube channel started streaming a new short on Tuesday titled “Pokémon: Dragonite and the Special Delivery” (Japanese title “Kairyū to Yūbinya‑san,” meaning “Dragonite and the Mailman”). This English‑dubbed anime short is part of the long‑running Pokémon franchise.

The short premiered in Japanese on the official Pokémon YouTube channel on February 27, 2025—Pokémon Day. It was produced by CoMix Wave Films, the studio behind many of Makoto Shinkai’s films. Voice actress Riko Fukumoto plays the lead role of Hana.
The story follows Hana, a girl who’s fascinated by a Dragonite that works as a postal carrier. One day she receives a mysterious, address‑less letter and decides to track down the sender with the help of her trusty Fuecoco. She eventually discovers that the letter was written by a boy named Rio, who intended to send it to his father working overseas in the Kanto region. With his dad’s birthday fast approaching, Rio worries the letter won’t reach him in time.
The short was directed and storyboarded by Taku Kimura (known for “Tattooine Rhapsody” in Star Wars: Visions and Osana Najimi no Carbou). Kentarō Nana wrote and supervised the script, while Asuka Dokai handled character design and Maho Aoki oversaw animation design and served as animation director. Tasuku Watanabe was the art director. The music was composed by Evan Call (known for Violet Evergarden, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and My Happy Marriage), who also composed the ending theme “Kami Hikōki” (Paper Airplane) performed by vocalist suis of the band yorushika.
