The Chukyo TV network announced on Wednesday that Keiko Suenobu’s manga Ochitara Owari will be adapted into a live‑action television series. The drama will air in the “Suiyō Platinight” (Wednesday Platinum Night) slot on Chukyo TV, NTV and their affiliated stations across Japan, debuting on July 1.
Former AKB‑48 member Mariko Shinoda – known for roles in Terra Formars and Kaiji: Final Game – will portray Kumiko Mamiya.
Television announcer Misato Ugaki takes on the role of Asumi Tsukishima.
The scripts are being written by Taeko Asano, who previously worked on live‑action adaptations such as Marmalade Boy and More Than Words.
The story follows housewife Asumi Tsukishima, who, after five years of marriage, finally moves her family of three into a new high‑rise apartment complex—a lifelong dream. While she befriends the mothers of her daughter’s classmates, she also runs into her old schoolmate Kumiko Mamiya, sparking a web of complicated relationships.
The manga debuted in Kodansha’s Be Love magazine in June 2019 and concluded in September 2023, with the final volume released in October 2023.
Since then, Suenobu has launched the new manga Addict in the same Be Love magazine (April 1) and previously created the Life 2: Giver/Taker series in Afternoon (2016‑2018), which also received a live‑action adaptation in 2022. Her original Life series ran for 20 volumes in Bessatsu Friend (2002‑2009), won the 2006 Kodansha Manga Award for shōjo, and was adapted for TV in 2007. Kodansha USA later licensed both Life and Life 2: Giver/Taker.
Another of Suenobu’s works, Limit, was published in English by Vertical (2012‑2013) and received a live‑action TV series in 2013.
