Bandai Namco Entertainment announced on Wednesday that Once Upon a Katamari, its latest entry in the Katamari Damacy franchise, will receive a Nintendo Switch 2 version on October 8. A new piece of downloadable content titled “Rolling LIVE Highlights” will launch on the same day.
The Switch 2 version adds mouse controls for rolling the Katamari, an improved frame rate, and updated graphics compared with the existing Switch release. Bandai Namco also confirmed that the original Switch version will receive a free update introducing mouse controls and a higher frame rate when played on Switch 2 hardware.
The “Rolling LIVE Highlights” DLC adds 10 quests, 12 songs, six cousins, and 18 accessories to the base game.
Once Upon a Katamari first launched for Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam last October. A Deluxe King of All Sounds edition is also available, bundling 60 songs and 26 costumes drawn from past games in the series.
The game introduces new stages and new songs while retaining the rolling-and-collecting gameplay familiar to the franchise. After the King of All Cosmos once again accidentally destroys the Earth and the stars, The Prince travels through time to restore the night sky. Players can customize The Prince and 68 cousins with different colors and facial features.
A new four-player competitive multiplayer mode titled “KatamariBall” challenges players to roll the biggest balls possible. The mode supports both online and offline play.
Bandai Namco released the original rolling puzzle game Katamari Damacy for the PlayStation 2 in 2004. The series has since expanded across PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, and mobile devices in North America and Japan. The publisher released its Amazing Katamari Damacy smartphone game in December 2017.
Bandai Namco followed the original with Katamari Damacy Reroll, an HD remaster of the first Katamari Damacy, on Switch and PC in 2018 and on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2020. We Love Katamari Reroll+ Royal Reverie, an HD version of the 2005 PlayStation 2 title We Love Katamari, debuted on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC via Steam in June 2023.
The Katamari Damacy Rolling LIVE game launched for smartphones in April 2025.
