Get ready to circle July 17 on your calendars! The full trailer for the anime film adaptation of Kaori Mado’s beloved novel You, Fireworks, and Our Promise (Kimi to Hanabi to Yakusoku to or affectionately called Kimi-Hana) has dropped, and it’s packed with exciting new details. Alongside the trailer, we got a stunning key visual and the thrilling announcement that the idol group timelesz will perform the theme song, “Kienai Hanabi” (Eternal Fireworks).

First up, the cast just got even more exciting! Rie Takahashi steps into the role of Haru, the mysterious girl who holds a key to the story’s heart.
And joining her is Natsuko Yokosawa as Yukari Natsume, Makoto’s mother.
Behind the scenes, the talent stack is impressive: Toshiharu Mizutani brings his vision as art director, Shiho Kuriki handles color key artistry, Shinji Saitō leads compositing and photography direction, Takeshi Takadera shapes the film’s soundscape as sound director, and Arisa Okehazama composes the musical score.
Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Nagaoka Festival Grand Fireworks Show—one of Japan’s top three fireworks spectacles that floods Niigata Prefecture with hundreds of thousands of visitors each year—the story follows Makoto, a Tokyo high school boy struggling with social skills and confidence, and Aki, a radiant class president blessed with beauty and talent. Their connection? A single, enigmatic drawing of a fireworks display. As fate and the drawing’s mystery intertwine, they’re forced to confront a life-changing choice within a tight window of time.
The lead roles are filled by some familiar faces: Shōri Satō from the idol group timelesz embodies Makoto Natsume, while actress Nanoka Hara (known for Suzume, the live-action Oshi no Ko, and Mieruko-chan) brings Aki Hayama to life.
At the helm is director Kei Suzuki (whose credits include assistant director on City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust and work on Tower of God: Return of the Prince), steering the project at Synergy SP and The Answer Studio. The screenplay comes from Kōhei Mori, while Yūji Watanabe (known for guest character design and animation direction on Flag) crafted the characters. Veteran producer Michihiko Umezawa (whose work includes The Dangers in My Heart and A Couple of Cuckoos) planned and produced the film alongside Shinei Animation.

The novel that started it all, published by Shogakukan‘s Gagaga Bunko imprint with illustrations by Akamoku (whose work includes The Girl Who Wants to Be a Hero and the Girl Who Ought to Be a Hero), hit shelves on December 18, 2025. And for manga fans, there’s more good news: the story is getting its own manga adaptation.
