Hirayasumi, Land, Tokyo Alien Bros., and More Nominated for Eisner Awards

The Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards have unveiled their nominees, and several manga titles are in the running for top honors.
Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia includes:
- Hirayasumi by Keigo Shinzō, translated by Jan Mitsuko Cash
- Land by Kazumi Yamashita, translated by Kevin Gifford
- Tokyo Alien Bros. by Keigo Shinzō, translated by Casey Loe
Additional nominees in this category are Chang Sheng’s Yan comic and Sanho’s Purgatory Funeral Cakes comic.
Kazumi Yamashita also received a separate nod for Best Writer/Artist for the first volume of Land.
Other notable nominations:
- Shintaro Kago’s short stories “Blood Harvest” and “The Curse Room” are contenders for Best Short Story (both appear in the Brain Damage anthology).
- Anime director Rintarō’s memoir manga My Life in 24 Frames per Second is up for Best Graphic Memoir.
- Kodansha USA’s hardcover release of Akira volumes 1‑5 by Katsuhiro Ōtomo is nominated for Best Archival/Collection Project.
- Andrea Horbinski’s book Manga’s First Century: How Creators and Fans Made Japanese Comics is a candidate for Best Academic/Scholarly Work.
- The Art of Manga (designed by Tessa Lee) and the Collector’s Edition #13 box set of Fruits Basket (designed by Wendy Chan) are in the running for Best Publication Design.
- Viz’s digital release of hakei’s DeadAss is competing for Best Digital Comic.
Last year’s winner in the Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia category was Taiyo Matsumoto’s Tokyo These Days, translated by Michael Arias.
Furthermore, legendary manga creator Gō Nagai is set to be inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame this year.
