ASMIK Ace released the third promotional video for the TV anime adaptation of Takata’s light‑novel series I Made Friends With the Second Prettiest Girl in My Class (originally Class de 2‑ban Me ni Kawaii Onna no Ko to Tomodachi ni Natta). The video features reGretGirl’s 2025 song “Hi no Ataru Kotoba” (Words in the Sunlight).

Broadcast Information
The series premiered on Tokyo MX on 7 April at 23:30 JST, with a later airing on Kansai TV. It began streaming on BS Asahi on 10 April and is simul‑cast worldwide via Crunchyroll.
Story Synopsis (Yen Press)
Maki Maehara is a solitary high‑schooler with no friends or hobbies. He expects the new school year to be just the same—until he bumps into the popular Umi Asanagi at a video store. As the “second prettiest girl in class,” Umi lives in a completely different world, but the two quickly discover shared interests beyond B‑grade movies. She asks Maki to be her friend, and their unexpected bond sets the story in motion.
Source Material
Takata originally posted the story on Kadokawa’s Kakuyomu website in November 2020, where it won a special prize in the romantic‑comedy division of the 6th Kakuyomu Web Novel Contest. Kadokawa’s Sneaker Bunko imprint began printing the novels in December 2021, and illustrator Rin Ono launched a manga adaptation on Kadokawa’s Comic Alive+ platform in 2022.
