About the Source Material
The BLUE LOCK manga, created by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura, debuted in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018. It follows a radical Japan Football Union program that gathers 300 of the country’s most promising youth players to forge an “ace striker” capable of leading Japan to World‑Cup glory. The series won the 2021 Kodansha Manga Award for Best Shōnen Manga and has sold over 38 tankōbon volumes.
The manga was adapted into a 24‑episode anime that aired from October 2022, streamed worldwide by Crunchyroll (including an English dub). A second TV season, BLUE LOCK vs. U‑20 JAPAN, aired in October 2024, and a third season is slated for the future. A spinoff manga, BLUE LOCK – Episode Nagi, ran from 2022 to 2025 and received its own anime film in April 2024.
