In the 12th issue of Shōnengahōsha’s Young King BULL released on May 18, it was announced that Naoki Serizawa’s Saru Lock Reboot will wrap up in the magazine’s June 1 issue. The series’ 10th and final tankōbon is slated to ship on July 27.
Serizawa originally debuted the reboot in Young King BULL back in October 2018, and the ninth volume hit shelves in March 2025.
The original Saru Lock follows high‑schooler Yatarō “Saru” Sarumaru, a day‑dreaming idol fan who’s terrible with girls—except when it comes to locks. As the silver‑haired son of a locksmith, he possesses a near‑supernatural knack for picking any lock, earning him the nickname “Saru” (Japanese for “monkey”).
Serizawa launched the first action‑comedy manga in 2003, and Kodansha wrapped it up with the 22nd volume in 2009. The series later inspired a live‑action film and TV drama that same year.
Serizawa also created the Biohazard: Marhawa Desire manga, which began with a prologue in CAPCOM’s CapBom! magazine in 2011 and concluded in 2013. Viz Media later released the five‑volume series in North America under the title Resident Evil: The Marhawa Desire. Most recently, he served as monster designer for Yoshitaka Amano’s anime Gibiate.
