Patlabor the Case Files Game – 2nd Promotional Video Reveals Summer Release

Good Smile Company and Chime Corporation announced that Patlabor the Case Files, a brand‑new 3D action game set in the beloved Patlabor universe, will launch this summer on PlayStation 5 and PC (via Steam). The second promotional video was unveiled on Tuesday.
Gameplay & Story
- The game puts players in control of a variety of “Labors” – industrial robots that have become a staple in construction, civil engineering, and, increasingly, crime.
- The Metropolitan Police’s Special Vehicle Section 2 (Patrol Labor Squadron) is tasked with hunting down rogue Labors, echoing the premise of the original series.
- Players experience missions from both hero and adversary viewpoints, with many scenes directly inspired by the anime.
- Over 20 distinct Labors are available, each with unique abilities and combat styles.
Creative Supervision
The original Headgear team is directly involved in the project:
- Yutaka Izubuchi – supervising game mechanics.
- Kazunori Itō – overseeing the script.
- Akemi Takada – handling character animation.
Patlabor Franchise Background
Patlabor originated from the creative collective HEADGEAR, which includes:
- Director Mamoru Oshii (known for Ghost in the Shell, Sky Crawlers).
- Scriptwriter Kazunori Itō (..hack, Dirty Pair).
- Mecha designer Yutaka Izubuchi (.Eureka Seven, Mobile Suit Gundam).

The franchise has spawned two OVAs, a TV series, three theatrical films, and the recent Patlabor EZY anime project, which will be released as three movies (May 15 2026, August 14 2026, and March 2027).
