Star Fox 64 Remake Announced for Switch 2

Nintendo revealed during a Nintendo Direct stream that a new Star Fox title—simply titled Star Fox—is a full‑scale remake of the classic Star Fox 64. The game launches on the Switch 2 on June 25.

What’s New?

  • Faithful recreation of the original level layout and core mechanics.
  • Modern graphics and a fresh art style.
  • Fully voiced dialogue and cinematic briefings in Campaign Mode.
  • Orchestral soundtrack and three difficulty settings for the campaign.
  • New Challenge Mode with extra objectives and two difficulty levels.
  • Joy‑Con 2 Mouse Controls support for both Campaign and Challenge modes.
  • Co‑op play: two players can share piloting and gunnery duties on the same console or via GameShare/GameChat.
  • Multiplayer Battle Mode (4‑on‑4) with three game types, online matchmaking, private matches, and GameShare support.

How It Fits Into the Series

Star Fox 64 originally launched on the Nintendo 64 in 1997 as a reimagining of the 1993 SNES Star Fox. It has already received two remakes:

  • Star Fox 64 3D for the Nintendo 3DS (2011)
  • Star Fox Zero for the Wii U (2016)

The game also became available digitally on Switch via Nintendo Classics in 2021.

Fox McCloud’s Recent Spotlight

The series’ hero, Fox McCloud, recently appeared in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which opened on April 1.
