R‑Type Dimensions III Game Launches Digitally on May 19

Physical edition delayed to August 11
ININ Games announced on Thursday that the side‑scrolling shooter R‑Type Dimensions III will launch digitally on May 19. The physical release has been pushed back to August 11 because of “ongoing global manufacturing and logistics constraints.” The Collector’s Edition is now slated for a winter 2026 window to allow an upgraded production process; the included figurine will be crafted by Wētā Workshop.

The title was originally scheduled for a May 2026 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
ININ Games is developing the game in close cooperation with Tōzai and Irem, the license holder and original creator of the R‑Type franchise.

Building on the legacy of R‑Type Dimensions and R‑Type Dimensions EX, Dimensions III has been completely re‑envisioned with cutting‑edge visuals and sound, plus expanded gameplay modes, to deliver the most definitive modern edition of R‑Type’s classic era.
Every stage, boss, and projectile pattern has been rebuilt with high‑end 3D graphics, enhanced animations, and richly detailed environments while preserving the series’ signature atmosphere. The original music and sound effects have also been remastered, and players can switch seamlessly between the classic and new versions at any time.
Special and Collector’s Editions
- Special Edition: Full game, artbook, and new soundtrack.
- Collector’s Edition: Everything in the Special Edition plus a selection of bonus items, including a Wētā‑crafted figurine.
Series background
The first R‑Type arcade shooter debuted in 1987. Subsequent titles include R‑Type Final (PS2, 2003), R‑Type Tactics and its sequel (PS Portable, 2007–2009), and the R‑Type Dimensions compilation (Switch/PC, 2018). Granzella’s recent releases—R‑Type Final 3 Evolved (PS5, 2023) and R‑Type Final 2 (2021)—have kept the franchise active, while R‑Type Tactics I • II Cosmos arrived in Japan in March 2025 and will launch worldwide on June 18, 2026.
