Nintendo just treated fans to a sneak peek of their upcoming Switch 2 title, streaming the opening cinematic for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book on Tuesday. The vibrant clip shows everyone’s favorite green dinosaur embarking on a whimsical journey—complete with a cameo from Bowser Jr.—as he leaps into a magical storybook world.

Once inside the enchanted book, Yoshi’s surroundings transform into something that looks like it jumped straight out of a hand-drawn picture book. The gameplay leans into this charm—Yoshi can scoop up various creatures and carry them on his back to unlock special abilities, adding a playful twist to the classic platforming formula.
This new adventure arrives on Switch 2 this Thursday, marking Yoshi’s first major outing since Yoshi’s Crafted World delighted players on the original Switch back in March 2019.
Of course, Yoshi’s been stealing hearts long before that. He first waddled onto the scene in Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo in 1990, then took center stage in his own platformer debut, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, in 1995. The following year, Yoshi’s Story brought his adventures to the Nintendo 64. Since then, he’s become a staple—not just in his own series, but popping up everywhere from Mario Kart races to Super Smash Bros. battles.
And if you’ve been keeping up with the Mario movie universe, you’ll know Yoshi’s getting some Hollywood love too. The upcoming Super Mario Galaxy Movie sequel—set to hit theaters in April 2026—features Donald Glover voicing everyone’s favorite dinosaur, following his reveal in the final trailer earlier this year.
